Below is the Elvis news report for this month by Emiel Maier.  As always Mr. Maier did a very good job…except he did not understand the reason, the purpose, or the meaning of Priscilla’s birthday speech at the Candlelight Vigil.  I guess he is not a follower of this website which is authorized and approved by Elvis himself.

#ElvisPresleyNewsReport @Emiel Maier Every month I will post an Elvis Presley News Report. If you like this posting then please inform other kindred spirits (like fellow Elvis-fans!). (Spread the word!) THANKS to all who have put this EPNR on their Facebook page. I truelly appreciate that!!! Thanks for subscribing.

Some good news!!  Jesse called this afternoon and he is doing well.  We had a very good visit.   He was checking on my state of healing.  He was apologetic that he did not get to call last week.  He was having trouble with his phone which was very frustrating.  As always, his call made my day and lifted my spirits immensely.

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 14, 2022

I apologize for not adding anything to my site for the past week.  Tom and I both came down with horrible colds beginning last Thursday night and are just now returning to normal.

Also, the healing and rehab therapy for both arms/shoulders is not progressing very well.  I am still in a lot of pain and very limited use of my arms and hands.  I will return for a follow-up visit with the orthopedic surgeon next Monday 19th.  He will be x-raying both arms/shoulders to determine if they are healing.  I am kind of discouraged as it will soon be 4 months since the first break.

I am in some degree of constant pain all of the time.  So, please understand and forgive me for not responding to all your e-mails.  The pain, plus the twice-weekly physical therapy sessions and the time spent doing the therapy at home really cuts into my time and stamina.   I am accustomed to the chronic pain which I have dealt with for so many years but this takes it to a whole new level of misery.

My thanks to everyone for your understanding and patience.  Prayers, please.

Love, light, and peace to all,

Linda

Below is an article that I want to add to my website as an update to one which I posted years ago about the same topic.

Tom and I toured either Graceland or an Elvis museum where we saw the below red DEA warmup suit many years ago.  I had our photos of this suit in one of our albums from our trips and I thought I recalled us seeing the suit at Graceland…but I must have been mistaken…perhaps it was in the Jimmy Velvet museum or another museum.

Below are some facts about this suit that I did not know or else could not recall when I first posted my photos of this suit.  Below is my original article followed by the facts about this suit which I received just last week from Bill Glass’s email.

The below photos are of two items that were on display way back many years ago during one of our visits to an Elvis museum which we photographed. As you can see, one is of a DEA logo jogging suit and the other is of a federal badge.

You will notice THIS above the DEA logo on this suit: NATIONAL TRAINING INSTITUTE while Elvis’ later suits which he was wearing right up until August 16, 1977, displayed DEA STAFF.  I was told by Wanda June Hill who was a dear friend of Elvis’ that he DID undergo training for the law enforcement titles which were his.

Red DEA Suit at Graceland logo enlarged

PLEASE BE CERTAIN TO NOTICE THAT THE BELOW BADGE WHICH WAS ON DISPLAY SHOWS “RETIRED“.  IF THIS WAS ELVIS’ OWN BADGE, THEN THIS PROVES THAT ELVIS’ WAS A REAL BADGE AND NOT HONORARY.  I HAVE NOT QUESTIONED JESSE AND THEREFORE I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT YEAR THE “RETIRED” BADGE WAS ISSUED.

Elvis' DEA Badge on display Graceland enlarged retired

Below is the original photo of the above “retired” badge as we photographed it on display.

Elvis Federal badge with retired on it

SUNDAY, MARCH 25, 2018

I don’t feel that I made enough of an emphasis above on the great significance of this particular suit’s emblem.

Below is an enlargement of the logo/emblem. Please take note of the wording above the DEA logo.

If this was Elvis’ own suit, then this PROVES that Elvis did undergo training to qualify for carrying the federal badge and that the badge was NOT just an honorary badge for his badge collection.

I was told by Wanda June Hill that Elvis did undergo a lot of training for the law enforcement activities in which he was involved.

I apologize for repeating my earlier posting…just want to make sure that everyone realizes what they are seeing here.

Below is the recent excerpt from the e-mail which I received from Mr. Glass about the above red DEA suit which is now for sale along with many other very nice Elvis relics.  Please see Mr. Glass’ contact information at the end of this article.

Below is Bud Glass’s contact information should anyone be interested in purchasing this suit or any other of Mr. Glass’s beautiful Elvis relics.

Good news/sad news!  Jesse called Wednesday evening…that’s the good news.  The sad news is that Tom and I had gone for a short stroll outside and missed his call.  He left a message on our machine and it was definitely a most welcome sound to listen to his message.  He said that he is doing alright and that made me happy.  As always, his call certainly was a most welcome blessing in our day and made me feel better.

Below is a detailed informative article regarding the new Elvis TV channel.  I haven’t been able to check this out yet myself.  It certainly sounds very good and interesting.  I was pleased to read that this channel will even carry some of Elvis’ own favorite movies and shows.

Cinedigm launches free dedicated Elvis Presley channel on 7 streaming platforms

Cinedigm has launched The Elvis Presley Channel, a new dedicated channel featuring the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll films, specials and more, on seven streaming platforms.

Those platforms include LG Channels, Amazon’s Freevee, Vizio, Dish’s Sling TV, Comcast’s Xumo, Plex, and Allen Media Group’s Local Now. With the distribution partners, the free ad-supported streaming TV (FAST) channel has reach of more than 100 million devices.

Along with content featuring Elvis Presley, the channel also has series and lifestyle programming inspired by the late music icon, including new original series that’s in development.

The launch has been in the making as Cinedigm disclosed roughly a year ago it would create a dedicated channel focused on Presley, who died in 1977, in partnership with Elvis Presley Enterprises and ABG Entertainment.

In addition to the seven streaming platforms, Xfinity’s What to Watch channel on Xumo will host a curated collection of films and documentaries from the Elvis channel during primetime, starting July second weekend and then continuing weekly through the rest of the month.

“Elvis Presley is an iconic performer whose global appeal transcends across generations and a diverse range of fans,” said Erick Opeka, President of Cinedigm Digital Networks. “We see his ongoing influence today in music, movies, fashion and culture.”

The aim of the channel is not only to appeal to existing fans “but to engage new generations of fans through our curated and creative program line-up,” Opeka continued.

And Cidedigm pointed to 2022 as a big year for fans of the legendary artist, pointing to Warner Bros. Pictures’ cinematic drama ELIVS by filmmaker Baz Luhrmann (which battled at the North American box office this weekend where it brought in $30.5 million and tied blockbuster Top Gun: Maverick for first place) , and the forthcoming Netflix Elvis action-comedy animated series “Agent King,” along with two planned Elvis albums from Sony later this year.

2022 also marks the 45th anniversary of Elvis’ death, with Graceland honoring the date with Elvis Week from August 9- August 17 in Memphis.

Cinedigm is catering to an enthusiastic fan base.

“We are thrilled for fans to immerse themselves in Elvis’ world with the launch of The Elvis Presley Channel,” said Matt Abruzzo, senior director of Brand Management, Entertainment, at Authentic Brands Group (ABG), owner of Elvis Presley Enterprises, in a statement. “The Elvis fandom is incredibly passionate, and when it comes to serving enthusiastic fan bases, no one does it better than Cinedigm.”

Programming details

For the new FAST channel Cinedgim is promising a mix of new and classic programming, with content refreshed monthly with hundreds of hours of films and series.

Films, series and documentaries will be exclusively streamed such as the Elvis ’68 Comeback Special, Elvis Aloha from Hawaii and broadcast and unedited versions of Elvis, by the Presley’s. Other artists and related content will also be featured in themed programming blocks such as Elvis’s favorites, Elvis Inspired Reality, African American Artists that Inspired Elvis and 50s Rock N’ Roll Rebel Movies.

The channel is serving up some of the music star’s own favorite TV and films, including “The Beverly Hillbillies,” John Wayne movies “Angel and the Badman,” “Blue Steel” and “Riders of Destiny,” and Bruce Lee films “Warrior’s Journey” and “The Man The Myth.”

For Cinedigm, the launch marks the latest addition to its growing portfolio of FAST and subscription-based channels. Earlier in June it turned up The Bob Ross Channel en Español on The Roku Channel’s new Espacio Latino offering – tapping AI technology from Papercup for a dubbed Spanish-language version of the beloved painting series. The company counts 22 other dedicated channels spanning a variety of genres, such as anime (CONtv anime) Latinx (El Rey Network), classic film and TV (Film Detective), K-pop (KMT), women (MyTime Movie Network), and horror (Screambox), among others.

WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 21, 2022

I just hung up the phone from speaking with Jesse and he sounded so wonderful.  He called earlier this afternoon while we were away from home taking a good friend to her Dr. appointment.  He left a message which we loved hearing when we got home.  I was very happy that he did get a chance to call us back tonight.  Jesse wanted to know how my appointment with the Dr. went and to mention my upcoming birthday.  He could only stay on the phone for a very few minutes but his call made my whole day just as it always does.  No one ever had a more wonderful big brother.  I am so thankful for him always.

My Dr. visit went pretty well and the X-rays show that my arms/shoulders are still healing.  I will return to the surgeon for more x-rays on October 31st.  I still have pain and tire easily…thus my lack of activity here on the website.

As always, I thank everyone for your understanding and patience with my less-than-normal activity here.

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 27, 2022

I want to share with everyone that Jesse called me earlier tonight for my birthday.  Needless to say, his call was the highlight of my birthday.   Yesterday I received a gift from Jesse in the mail.  It is a beautiful watch that belonged to his mother.  I love it so much and it is a wonderful treasure to me.  When Tom and I get a chance, we will make a photo of it and will share it here on the site.

I turned 76 today and that was certainly NO  fun at all…no “happy” in that birthday number. Ha, ha!

I again apologize for my absence from the site so far this week.   I have now been scheduled for ongoing physical therapy sessions through the end of October when the surgeon will again evaluate my healing progress.  These sessions, of course, cut into my time and energy.

We remember Elvis’ enjoyment of comic books growing up and his mention of them in his acceptance speech at the 1971 JC’s Acceptance Speech for being selected among the “10 Outstanding Young Men Of The Year“, in Memphis.

I came across the below article listing some of the comics in which Elvis has been featured since he retired.  Perhaps there are some comic book fans in my group of visitors who may wish to track down copies of the below issues which featured Elvis.

10 Elvis Presley Appearances In Comic Book Universes

BY ANISH FONSEKA

Presley, or characters bearing a suspicious resemblance to him, have a long history of appearing in American comic book universes.

With Baz Lurhman’s Elvis Presley biopic tearing up the box office, now is as good a time as any to celebrate The King in whatever medium he appears. Elvis’ pompadour hairstyle was famously borrowed from the Fawcett/DC Comics character Captain Marvel Jr, but his connection with comics goes the other way too.RELATED:10 Best Songs About Comic Book Characters RankedPresley, or characters bearing a suspicious resemblance to him, have a long history of appearing in American comic book universes. These are often cameos using Elvis’ iconography to signpost time periods or cultural moments. Sometimes, these are affable gags paying homage to the King, and occasionally, The King is a comic book star in his own right.

10 Archer & Armstrong Once Bumped Into The King In A Hollywood Hotel

Archer and Armstrong have a proud tradition of busting up conspiracies in the Valiant universe. However, Archer & Armstrong Vol. 2 #20 by writer Fred Van Lente and artists Père Perez and David Baron is quirky – even by their standards. The plot kicks off with Archer and Armstrong traveling to Hollywood to uncover Archer’s destiny.

However, they quickly bump into a frightened person who looks exactly like Elvis from his iconic dance sequence in Jailhouse Rock. The next time they meet him, he’s followed by several other, supposedly dead, celebrities like Kurt Cobain and Jimi Hendrix.

Move Over Nixon, That Handshake Was Meant For Deadpool

Discontent with letting Punisher have all the fun, Wade Wilson gets in on the superhero serial killing action during the arc, Deadpool Kills The Marvel Universe, which is written by Cullen Bunn with art by Dalibor Talajic and colors by Lee Loughridge. Of course, no superhero murder spree would feel complete without a cameo from the King.

RELATED:Deadpool’s 10 Best Fourth Wall Breaks

As the ‘Merc with a Mouth’ races towards the climax of his rampage in #4, he bounces around the Nexus of all Realities. While there, he glimpses an alternate universe where Deadpool stood in for president Nixon in his infamous photograph with Elvis Presley.

Harvey Pekar Shared His Elvis Recommendations In American Splendor

Harvey Pekar’s long-running American Splendor series took pride in its portrayal of Cleveland and its history, making it inevitable for Pekar to explore the subject of Elvis and his famous connection to the city. That’s exactly what happened in the story illustrated by Gary Dumm, which was collected in the American Splendor: Our Movie Year graphic novel.

Pekar may have been a Jazz man, but he clearly recognized the sovereignty of the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll. The short comic makes clever use of Elvis, who’s arguably the poster child for the folly of celebrity. This is all in service toPekar’s contemplation about his own stardom in anticipation of the American Splendor film adaptation.

Elvis Met The Skrulls, Courtesy Of Fred Hembeck

Marvel’s Bug – a proud Micronauts and Guardians of the Galaxy member – received a one-shot comic in 1997, which was meant to act as a pilot for his (still unpublished) solo series. While the Bug comic is a standard post-Image ’90s superhero origin story, it featured a delightful backup written and drawn by Fred Hembeck.

Hembeck made his mark parodying major superheroes, which eventually led him to Elvis Presley. The King shows up in a cheeky gag within a two-page spread that attempts the (futile) task of making sense of Marvel continuity.

Elvis Showed The Badger His Karate Kicks

The Badger was a superhero comic published by Capital then First Comics, which were the eighties’ progenitors to ImageThe Badger, created by writer Mike Baron, was a Vietnam veteran with mental health issues, which may have contributed to his ability to speak to animals.

In issue #65, penciled by Neil Hansen, The King is a prominent guest star who teams up with the Badger to bring down a drug dealing colonel, who’s definitely not Tom Parker. As if two martial arts masters weren’t enough for a single issue, Bruce Lee also shows up halfway through the tale.

(The Chief) Perry White’s Iconic Catchphrase Conjured The King

Perry White is surely on the Mount Rushmore of comic book catchphrases. From “great Ceaser’s ghost!” to “…and don’t call me chief!”, the chief can punctuate any Daily Planet scene with a splashy remark.

In Superman: The Man of Steel Vol. 2 #53, writer Louise Simonson and artists Jon Bogdanove and Denis Rodier pay homage to White’s all-time best catchphrase – “great shades of Elvis!”. Also, if the Lois & ClarkTV show is any indication, the chief was a major Elvis fan, so he surely regretted missing his chance to meet the King.

The Justice Society Confronted Pax Americana With A Nod To The King

Among other things, Elvis is a cultural touchstone that artists frequently use to signpost moments in recent history. For example, it’s why most montages that zip through the ’50s tend to include a snapshot of the King, as was the case with both #1 and #4 of America vs. The Justice Society.

The four-issue miniseries was written by Roy and Dann Thomas and illustrated by Rafael Kayanan, Jerry Ordway, and Rich Buckler. Set on the pre-Crisis Earth-Two, the series used the mythology of the Justice Society to make an ambitious, if crude, commentary on McCarthyism.

*3 Elvis Became A Part Of The Bruce Campbell Comic Book Universe

Army of Darkness/Bubba Ho-Tep is an epic comic book crossover that pairs two cult Bruce Campbell characters: Ash from the Evil Dead franchise and Elvis Presley. The Campbell incarnation of the King appeared in the 2002 film Bubba Ho-Tep, which featured an aged Elvis trapped in a retirement home after recovering from a coma.

The comic book miniseries, by writer Scott Duvall and artist Vincenzo Federici, strung out a lot of humor from Ash and Elvis’ chemistry as they teamed up against undead hordes. This version of Elvis also starred in another comic book, Bubba Ho-Tep and the Cosmic Blood Suckers.

Elvis Pops Up During A Nightmare In Vertigo’s Sandman

In Sandman Vol. 2 #1, writer Neil Gaiman and artists Sam Keith and Mike Drigenberg began one of the most revered stories in the history of comics. In their iconic first issue, Morpheus, the Lord of Dreams, sentenced his former captor (Alex Burgess) to a singularly horrific form of torture – the waking dream.

As Morpheus began his attacks on Burgess’ subconscious, he conjured a nightmare where his victim was transformed into a clown and dejected at a party populated by pop culture icons. The lineup includes John Wayne, Marilyn Monroe, and of course, Elvis Presley.

Even In Death, Elvis Had To Play The Casino Circuit

In the aftermath of World War Hulk, writer Greg Pak spun out the adventures of Hercules and his trusted ally Amadeus Cho. In The Incredible Hercules #129, produced with co-writer Fred Van Lente and artists Ryan Stegman and Terry Pallot, the Marvel incarnation of the famous demigod travels to the underworld.

Hercules and Amadeus soon end up in The Erebus, a Vegas-style casino constructed by Hades for the hordes of the undead. While rushing past the gambling room, they even spot the ultimate Elvis impersonator: the King himself.

Below is my own personal favorite of the comics which include Elvis.  I love this one and bought it years ago as soon as I became aware of its existence.  As you can see, this one is a tie-in to one of the series shown above in their article (*Elvis Became A Part Of The Bruce Campbell Comic Book Universe).

Here is the front cover of my book:

As I promised, below are the photos of the lovely watch that Jesse sent to me this week for my birthday.  The photos don’t adequately do justice to the beauty of this watch which belonged to Jesse’s mother.  I will treasure this precious gift for the rest of my life.  I am so honored that Jesse has trusted me with so many precious gifts over our 30 years of friendship.  I feel that I am the most blessed of all people who love Elvis/Jesse.

My heartfelt sincerest thanks to Jesse for remembering my birthday.  Most of all, I thank him for his phone call which is always the most wonderful gift he gives to me.
